how travel inspires creativity with annie tarasova

Annie Tarasova is an artist, writer and traveller inspired by the universe. Her work embodies a deep appreciation for the natural and cosmic world, serving as platform for reflection and growth. We asked her about her transformative travel experiences.

What is the one travel experience that has left you awestruck?

My very first overnight hike in New Zealand. Myself and three other travellers woke up before sunrise to climb a mountain and watched the sun rise over the sea of clouds as we reached the peak. Everything was filled with golden light. I was breathless.

Where have you travelled that has challenged you the most?

Peru, South America. It was unlike anywhere I have ever been to at the time. Completely new culture and landscapes. A group of travellers and I went to hike up to Lagoon 69 which is 4,604m above sea level. I have never been that high before and I thought I was going to pass out! But it was a beautiful experience that I am very grateful for. I have never seen water this blue.

If you could travel to just one place right now, where would it be?

New Zealand. It is like second home for me.

Has a person ever inspired or humbled you along your travels?

One time I was lost in Switzerland and an old 70+ year old couple from Sweden helped me find the right train and we had a lovely conversation about their travels.

How do the places you travel influence and inspire your work?

I am an artist first and foremost, and nature is my biggest inspiration. New landscapes, a sense of freedom, different cultures inspire me immensely.

What is your favourite way to travel?
I love traveling by train and going on road trips.

Do you have a travelling ritual? If so, what is it?

I don’t have a specific ritual but I journal a lot during my travels to document my experiences and reflect on them years into the future.
